Numbers are at last creeping up as juveniles made 80% of the catch. We had plenty of Wrens and Blackcaps but Chiffchaff are noticeable by their absence. This session last year we had 24 chiffs this year just three. Sedge Warbler is also seriously down with just one juvenile caught today.

Our total for sessions  1 - 8 is 323 vs an average of 448 and this is our lowest total since 1994 (and in that year session 3 was missed).
Low numbers aside it was an enjoyable ringing session and reasonably busy until about 9 o'clock with some nice variety in the form of two Lesser Whitethroats, two Garden Warblers, Treecreeper and a Goldfinch.

A very young Willow Warbler made us think that they may have bred on site even though we have not caught any adults yet this year and we caught our second 3J Cetti's Warbler.
Mosquitoes were predictably abundant with the added pleasure this year of a side show of midges. Ruddy Darter and Brown Hawker was also seen.
