A cold, dull morning weather wise but a thankful respite from the rain and wind that has been hampering ringing efforts this month. The weather may have been dull but the birds were interesting. The hopper containing millet attracted 10 reed buntings, 9 new and one retrap from last November. One of the male reed buntings appeared to have moulted a number of its primaries and secondaries, which is very unusual.
Reed Bunting wing with primaries 1-6 new and secondaries 3 - 9 new. |
Although the peanuts had run out during the week, the net next to the feeder caught a number of tits plus Robin, Dunnock and a female Bullfinch. On the last net round a little party of Goldcrests were caught in net 2 together with a Chiffchaff.

The woodland and marshy area is very wet after all the rain and fungi is abundant this year.
