Wilstone Reservoir 9th July 2017

Warm and calm
Nets 540'
Nets up 7am to 11.30am

I arrived at Wilstone to find the track at cemetery corner blocked by several large branches which I couldn't move without cutting so I had to return home to get the saws.
Not long after my return with the saws Jennie arrived and between us we eventually cleared the track. Consequently, we were late getting the nets up. There were very few birds singing except for the odd Chiffchaff and Blackcap. We totalled 92 birds and would have passed the hundred if not for the delayed start. Late in the morning in net eight we came across only the fourth Yellowhammer to have been ringed at Wilstone, the last being in 1991. We also ringed two Lesser Whitethroats our first ones of the year.
