The most notable new birds of the month were a Common
Sandpiper in net 1 on the 15th and a stunningly beautiful Wood warbler in net 2
on the 30th. This is only the second Wood warbler ringed at the reservoirs, the
first was caught also on the 30th July in 1993 at Marsworth, on one of the few
occasions that I helped out there in the early years.
Up until the 9th CES visit [30th July] the season is
averaging out, at about the same total per visit as 2016. In 2016 the first four
visits averaged 42.25 per visit where as this year it was only 27.25. So a
really slow start to the season is beginning to recover.
